Our Story

Algar Nicholas are a songwriting duo whose work spans decades. Both artists and writers, the intimate and shivery vocals of Algar feature on their own recordings, long beloved of industry insiders and loyal fans alike.

From the electro Cold War romance of their Stars of Berlin era, songs such as ‘Last Day of The World’ and ‘Believe in Me’ resonate more now than ever. These songs, treasured both by lovers and the lonely, have featured on film and TV, and continue to move new listeners.

Algar Nicholas have worked with iconic artists (including Midge Ure, George Michael,  Alexis Ffrench) as well as championing emerging talent and helping to launch new artists. They are long time collaborators with the legendary Robert Holmes (Red Guitars) with whom they share a project in Algar Nicholas Holmes.

The Certain Collective saw Algar Nicholas writing irrestible 60’s influenced pop songs for a diverse group of incredible new vocalists and creating a screenplay, motion comic and radio play to showcase their talents. Several artists secured recording contracts in the process.

Versatile and eclectic, and always embracing sounds, artists and ideas that inspire, Algar Nicholas continue to create. Whether working on an award winning song for a school choir, a collaboration with a rock icon, or a gloriously uplifting coming-out -of-lockdown anthem, Algar Nicholas have a unique ability to write new songs that somehow feel as if they have always been a part of you.
