Stars of Berlin is a retrospective of Algar/Nicholas’s earliest work, drawn from their time signed to China Records and EMI. Long beloved by industry insiders, but never before publicly released due to contractual issues, this collection will be released as a limited edition vinyl in 2024. Expect intense, apocalyptic romance with Algar’s shivery vocals drifting over acoustic electro landscapes. Including torch songs ‘Last Day of the World’ and ‘Believe in Me’ this vinyl release ‘Could just be one of the best albums you’ve never heard’ (Music taste 2024)
The Certain project is a collective of creators, artists and musicians celebrating the eternal power of music to lift the spirit. Emerging from lockdown and driven by Algar and Nicholas’s urge to capture the optimism and eternal quality of 1960’s and 70’s pop. Algar/Nicholas’s songs showcase the stunning vocal talents of Wolverhampton artists Ange Lloyd, Amara Latchford and Taylor Stylez. Immediately embraced by BBC and local radio each release was accompanied by an animated video by artist Dan Crew, who worked with Algar/Nicholas to build a world for the characters featured in the songs. Following the interest and excitement generated from these singles, Algar and Nicholas also wrote a pilot for a screenplay featuring the collective and creating a touching comedy for them, which went on to be made into a motion comic by Dan Crew and a radio play serialised on WCRfm. Check it out here.
In this project, Algar and Nicholas join forces with seminal artist Robert Holmes (Red Guitars) creating a sound that is intimate, melodic, and achingly emotional. Robert Holmes was writer and lead singer for the Red Guitars before going solo and creating an exquisite treasure trove of songs featuring his unique voice, most recently heard performing in Paris.
In Algar Nicholas Holmes two extraordinary voices and three outstanding songwriters come together, blending shades of Dylan and Cohen with Suzanne Vega and The Maria’s while packing an emotional punch that can’t fail to move you.
Algar/Nicholas have worked with some of the music industry’s greatest legends, from Midge Ure to George Michael, to the classical world’s Alexis Ffrench.
